Electrolysis
Permanent Hair Removal
The gold standard for permanent hair removal. Effective on every hair colour and skin type, including blonde, red, white, and grey hair that laser cannot treat.
What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal that has been recognised by the FDA as truly permanent. It works by applying a precise electrical current to individual hair follicles through a sterile, single-use probe, destroying the cells responsible for hair growth.
Unlike laser hair removal, electrolysis does not depend on the colour of the hair. This makes it the definitive solution for blonde, red, white, grey, and fine hairs that lack the melanin required for laser treatment.
There are three modalities used in electrolysis: Galvanic (chemical destruction), Thermolysis (heat-based), and Blend (combining both). Your practitioner will select the most effective method for your specific needs.

Laser vs Electrolysis
Both are excellent treatments. Understanding the differences helps us recommend the best approach for your goals.
| Feature | Laser | Electrolysis |
|---|---|---|
| Permanence | Long-term reduction (60-90%) | FDA-recognised permanent removal |
| Hair Colours | Dark hair (requires melanin) | All colours: blonde, red, white, grey |
| Skin Types | All (with correct technology) | All skin types |
| Session Duration | Quick (minutes for small areas) | Longer per session (15-60 mins) |
| Coverage | Large areas efficiently | Individual follicle precision |
| Best For | Larger areas, dark hair | Small areas, all hair types, finishing |
Many clients benefit from combining both treatments — laser for bulk reduction, then electrolysis for permanent finishing.
Learn About Laser TreatmentUnderstanding the Hair Growth Cycle
Hair grows in three distinct phases. Electrolysis can only permanently destroy a follicle during the active growth phase (anagen). This is why multiple sessions are required.
Anagen (Active Growth)
The hair is actively growing and connected to the papilla. This is when electrolysis is most effective.
Catagen (Transition)
The hair detaches from the papilla and begins to shrink. Treatment during this phase is less effective.
Telogen (Resting)
The hair is dormant before shedding. Multiple sessions ensure all hairs are treated in their anagen phase.
